May 2017 Construction Update

Commencement is less than two weeks away and as such, the team in the Office of Campus Planning, Design and Construction (CPDC) is actively preparing for a busy summer construction schedule. A number of important projects will occur this summer, including significant investments in classroom spaces, maker space, learning technology and residence halls. Additionally, a number of initiatives focused on upgrading utilities and infrastructure will get underway this summer.

As discussed at our forum last week, the Waverly Avenue Utility Expansion and Renewal project will likely be the most substantial project of the summer. A number of steps have been taken to minimize impact on the campus community, including the arrangement of alternative parking for Waverly Lot permit holders. To learn more about this project, which will begin after Commencement, click here.

Also beginning this summer is a multi-phase project to renovate all the classrooms and the auditorium in the Hall of Languages. Not only is the Hall of Languages one of the most recognizable and visible buildings on our campus, it also has among the highest volume of traffic of any of the buildings on campus. From liberal arts classes to daily tours with prospective students and their families, the Hall of Languages remains one of the most iconic and most-visited buildings on our campus.

Of course, there are dozens of other important projects occurring this summer. They include the following:

• The steps leading up to the front of the Hendricks Chapel will be replaced.

• The roof of the Center for Science and Technology will be replaced.

• CPDC will complete multi-year renovation projects, which include updates to restrooms and student rooms, in Haven and DellPlain halls.

• A multi-year renovation in Day Hall will begin this summer.

• Ongoing masonry repairs and skylight replacement will be the focus of renovations in Crouse College.

• Single-occupant accessible restrooms will be installed in the Regent Theatre Complex, Maxwell Hall and Huntington Hall.

• Classroom and academic space improvements will occur in the Center for Science and Technology, Link Hall, Huntington Hall and Watson Hall.

• Restroom renovations will occur in Day Hall, DellPlain Hall and Haven Hall, as well as in other buildings around campus.

• The Watson Hall auditorium will undergo improvements.

• Former library space in Falk College will be converted into usable academic and administrative space.

• Huntington Hall will undergo improvements in the Psychology Suite and Atrium glass investigation and repairs will also be performed.

A full listing of summer construction projects will be posted on the Campus Planning, Design and Construction website. Please refer to this website periodically to see what is occurring across campus, and feel free to reach out to the CPDC manager assigned with any questions you may have.
