Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
The winter weather hasn’t slowed the progress on several campus projects, including the renovation of the Schine Student Center and the Stadium Roof Project. We also have projects underway that are increasing safety for students, including new residence hall security cameras and improved lighting around Brewster, Boland and Brockway Halls. Although some final work is still in progress at the Daniel and Gayle D’Aniello Building, home to the National Veterans Resource Center, University staff and students have moved into the new facility.

Link Hall 019 Fit Out: Renovation work will begin in March on this Link Hall lab space for a new faculty member. The work includes new lab furniture, new epoxy flooring and improved lighting.
Residence Hall Security Cameras: During spring break, new security cameras will be installed in Flint Hall and Graham Dining Hall. University staff is currently establishing a plan to install cameras in additional residence halls this summer.
Brewster, Boland, Brockway Complex Site Lighting: New site lighting is proposed for the perimeter of these residence halls along Van Buren Street, the Brewster Hall entry drive and the sidewalk leading to the north side of the Syracuse VA Medical Center property. Construction will begin in July.
Daniel and Gayle D’Aniello Building, home to the National Veterans Resource Center: Commissioning of the auditorium audiovisual, lighting and sound will be complete in mid-March. Perimeter landscaping is scheduled for installation in the early spring. The building dedication will be held on Friday, April 17. To learn more, visit the NVRC website and live webcam. Parking along both sides of South Crouse Avenue from Waverly Avenue to Marshall Street has been restored. Parking signs and a parking pay station will be installed within the next few weeks.
Schine Student Center Renovation: Interior renovation work continues. Framing of the interior walls and installation of the new mechanical system is 25 percent complete. Removal of the exterior brick façade is complete. The contractor will soon remove portions of the exterior concrete walls to prepare for the new glass façade along the south and west sides of the building. The Syracuse University Bookstore and Goldstein Auditorium will remain open throughout construction. The project, identified as a key component of the Campus Framework, will enhance the student experience by creating new gathering spaces, improved facilities for student services and a new dining experience. Cantor Warehouse: Although the café has been open for student use since the start of the spring semester, final finishes are being installed after hours. The installation of the final light fixtures and the acoustic wall panels will complete the space. New furniture is scheduled for delivery in mid-March and will be ready for use when students return from spring break.
DellPlain Hall Student Room Renovations: Phase two construction of this renovation project will begin immediately after Commencement in May. The renovations will occur from the ground floor through the fifth floor. This project improves student room layouts, creating accessible rooms on all floors, and includes new furniture in student rooms on floors one through five and in student lounges on floors one through eight.
Brockway Hall: Improvements to the mechanical system are planned for summer 2020.
Campus Wayfinding and Building Signage: A working group of University representatives is overseeing a phased Campus Wayfinding and Building Signage project. The project includes exterior campus wayfinding and building signage, a digital wayfinding app, arrival signage to identify campus gateway entrances, interior building signage and donor recognition signage. The team has completed North Campus, South Campus and the Manley Complex parking lot signage, as well as North Campus wayfinding and building identification. The next phase includes the design of wayfinding on South Campus and building identification signage for certain peripheral properties.
Stadium Roof Project: The crown truss installation is progressing as the contractor works toward the south side of the building after recently installing the “keystone” on the north side. The crane adjacent to the Physics Building and Steele Hall has completed work in that location and is currently being relocated to the southeast corner of the Dome. During this crane relocation there will be restricted parking at times in the Quad Lot due to truck traffic. The Forestry Drive closure is underway, as the crane re-assembly will take place soon on Forestry Drive. The last event in the Dome will be the women’s basketball game on this Sunday, March 1. After this event, the building will be turned over to the project team and will be occupied 24 hours a day as a construction site in preparation for deflation and removal of the existing roof in mid- to late March. The construction areas around the Dome remain extremely busy. If you are driving or walking on campus in areas adjacent to the construction, please pay careful attention to flaggers and construction workers. Pedestrians traveling from Sadler Hall and Lawrinson Hall should observe and follow pedestrian signage. Please also note the Stadium is closed to walkers due to construction activities around the building.
