Aug. 23 Construction Update

This week, we welcome new and returning students, and celebrate the successful completion of another summer construction season. My colleagues in the Office of Campus Planning, Design and Construction (CPDC) and I would like to thank all members of the campus community for their support and flexibility throughout the summer. It is truly a team effort to complete such a large amount of work in a relatively short period of time. As we transition into the academic year, there will be smaller-scale projects taking place across campus. This is my last biweekly update of the summer; we will continue to keep you informed via a monthly email communication.

The following significant projects will continue into the fall semester, with limited impact on the campus community:

  • Carnegie Library: The work includes the conversion of the heating system from steam to a hot water system and creation of two student group study rooms. Work will continue, in mostly mechanical spaces, into the fall. Completion of work this fall will allow the new, much more comfortable, heating and cooling system to be operational for winter.
  • Crouse College: Masonry repairs and restoration of the demi-domes continue to progress well, and the work is expected to continue into the fall. We will continue to update you on the progress.
  • Hendricks Chapel Stair Replacement: The installation of new granite treads is complete. The remaining work, including plaza drainage improvements, will be complete in the first week of October.
